couples retreatYour guide to the Ultimate couples retreat:

Nothing brings couples closer together than spending a little time nestled in the bosom of nature. This isn’t to say you have to rough it in the bush with a tent and a week’s supply of toilet paper, but reconnecting with the great outdoors is a superior way to put the spark back in your relationship.

The best way to plan a couples retreat is to do what makes you both happiest. Consider the likes and dislikes of your partner, not just yourself. By the same measure, don’t put your happiness on the back burner to appease your significant other. Also, you’re going to want to decide how reclusive you want your couples retreat to be. There are many resorts that offer incredible couples options, but also cater to family vacations. If you don’t want to be around kids, you can request a secluded cabin or cottage rental, or choose a resort that is only for adults.

Here are some other things to consider when looking for a couples retreat:

How long do you want to go for? If you are going for a weekend, or just a couple of days, hitting up a totally secluded place could be ideal. You can indulge in some serious downtime and one-on-one. However, if you’re planning on staying longer, then it is always a good idea to consider a resort that has surrounding attractions, like a thriving downtown area, golf courses, or wineries. This way you can enjoy some time at the resort as well as exploring the surrounding areas.

What time of year are you planning on going? Some couples retreats are ideal for winter getaways, while others are better suited for the warmer months. Other resorts peak in the autumn, when the leaves are changing colours and the weather is not extremely warm or cold. Some couples retreats are ideally suited for year-round vacations. Your best bet is to do your research.

How far away are you planning to venture? There are no shortages of fabulous couples resorts in Ontario, but you may not want to drive 5 or more hours to get there, especially if you’re only planning on going for a couple of days. On the other hand, you may want to make a real road trip out of your couples vacation, and even stop along the way for a night. Of course, longer vacations are better suited to longer drives.
